About 2 months ago I had a solar system installed on my roof. Almost immediately the neighborhood pigeons moved in and began nesting and generally making a mess under the panels. Not only that, they woke up my wife and I every Saturday and Sunday morning at 7 AM like clockwork with the pitter patter of their little claws and cooing. This had to stop! So, I installed an exclusion mesh around the open edges of the panels and then spikes on all the flat roof surfaces as well as the chimney and vents. This should give me some piece of mind as well as a few more hours of sleep on the weekends.

California is home to a variety of wildlife, plants, and insects. When it comes to spiders, Woodland and Davis in Yolo County, California is most familiar with three different species that are more common than others. These species are the tarantula, the black widow, and the brown recluse. Yolo County California provides an excellent living environment for these spiders to thrive and multiply in, making them a common pest to come across. These are species of spiders that should be taken seriously as they can pose a threat to your health and their bites can be quite painful.

Is a Hairy Tarantula Spider’s Bite Really Venomous?

Tarantulas are known for being probably the hairiest  spider  that is in existence and can grow to extremely large size in comparison to other species of spiders. There are over 900 different species of tarantula in the world today and many experts believe there are species of tarantula that have yet to be identified. All tarantulas are venomous, however, there has yet to be a fatality reported due to a tarantula bite. People that have had the unfortunate experience of being bitten by a tarantula have expressed that it is more painful than that of a wasp sting.

Black Widow Spider Bite Facts

The black widow  has become a familiar spider not only in Yolo County, California but throughout the United States. The black widow spider is highly recognizable due to the red hour glass shape  that is found on its abdomen. Black widow females rip the head of males after they have mated with them. The female is venomous while the male is not. The male does not live very long to pose much of a threat anyway. Black widow spiders are excellent at hiding in areas that are rarely frequented. Bites often occur when someone is reaching into an area that they cannot see, like a poorly lit shelf, into a box or other secluded areas.

Brown Recluse Spider Bite Stages

The brown recluse spider  also has a very recognizable mark on its body; many have said the marking on a brown recluse resembles that of a brown violin or viola. The brown recluse spider is venomous and its bite has been known to be fatal. Yolo County, California provides many areas for these spiders to thrive and multiply, making the chances of one crawling into your home quite possible. If you are experiencing the presence of these spiders or any other pest inside or around your home, contact Woodland Davis Termite and Pest Control Inc.  today.

Winters are the most notorious time for rodents  to make themselves at home in your home. They want warm cozy places to wait out the colder weather. Often homes and businesses become the prime target for rats and mice. There are many species of rodents you might face this winter from House or Deer mice, to Norway or Roof rats. There are, of course, many ways to prevent and control rodent invasions. Woodland Davis Termite & Pest Control  will share a few tips on preventing and controlling rodents  this winter.

Mouse & Rat Prevention

You will always want to prevent rodents from invading your home. Prevention will greatly help your home from becoming less of a target and make it much easier to control any rodent invasion. Start your prevention program outside. Having a well groomed yard isn’t just to please HOA’s but also to help prevent many pests. Yard debris or even wood stack piles will bring rodents along with many other pests closer to your home. Clutter and debris create a feeding ground as well as provide shelter for a variety of rodents. By keeping your yard cleaned and bushes trimmed, you eliminate these so called resorts for rodents. Next, check the outside of your home. Look for cracks or spaces in windows or doorways where rodents can slip through. Mice have a unique ability to flatten their body, and can slip through a crack the width of a pencil. Your next challenge is sealing these entry points that rodents use. Rats will climb on roofs and slip through chimneys and attic vents too. These larger openings should be sealed with wire mesh to prevent rodents from crawling inside your home. Repair any leaky drains or pipes outside of the home as well. Providing unintended water sources, regardless of how good your other prevention methods are, will still invite rodents to come into your home. Finally, leave no discarded food in or outside your home. Make sure all food is properly contained in air tight sealed containers; something rodents won’t be able to chew through.

Rodent Control

Once you have a rodent problem it is a lot more difficult to deal with. Of course make sure the inside of your home is cleaned and food is properly packed away from rodent access. Now you will need to look into bait, poisons and traps. There are many types of traps on today’s markets. There are live capture traps and life taking traps. Live capture is actually more popular than those designed to kill. Many homeowners don’t like the smell of a dead rodent in their home and would rather have a pest control company deal with the live rodent. Depending on the circumstances, you many even want to use baits or poisons. However it is strongly recommended to only use poisons if necessary. Often rodents die where homeowners can’t reach or even find them. That means you will have a rotting rodent somewhere in your home. You may want to contact your local pest control company  to set up a good rodent control program that will benefit you and your home.
